Dal, Punjab Shiv Sena Clash in Tarn Taran

TARN TARAN: Communal tension prevailed in Punjab's border town of Tarn Taran folowing the members of Amritsar Akali Dal on Sunday clashed with Shiv Sena (Bal Thakrey) activists who burnt an effigy of Simranjit Singh Mann here to protest against an artcile written in a Punjabi monthly magazine criticising the role of Shiv Sena. Mann is president of Amritsar Akali Dal.
The clash has left atleast six persons injured including Ashwani Kumar Kukko and Tejinderpal Tinda, president and General Secretary of Taran Taran district unit of Shiv Sena and Varinder Kumar Bali. The Mann Dal supporters injured in the incident couldn't be identified.
All the business eastablishments in the town were closed and police has been deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
Tarn Taran police has
arrested five members of Mann group who allegedly attacked the Shiv Sena members
with swords, said Parveen Kumar Sinha SSP Taran Taran. They have been identified
as Balwant Singh, Bikram Singh, Jagdev Singh, Jagtar Singh and Balwinder Singh.
He said that FIR has been registered against Mann Dal supporters on the complaint
of Shiv Sena.
Shiv Sena had announced to burn the effigy of Mann to protest against remarks
that the editor or the newspaper Baljit Singh Khalsa had made against Shiv Sena.
Khlasa is said to be supporter of Mann. He has criticised Shiv Sena for an earlier
incident of clash between Msupporters of Mann and Parkash Singh Badal president
of Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) at Kathunanagal during birth anniversary of Bab
Budha ji at Kathu Nnagal. It is alleged that Shiv Sena had supported Badal supporters
in Kathunanagal clash.
Sources said that Mann Dal had warned Shiv Sena against burning of effigy of Mann. Party General Secretary Bhai Ram Singh and Avtar Singh Deol had submitted a memorendum to Deputy Commissioner Jaspal Singh and SSP Parveen Kumar Sinha seeking to prevent Shiv Sena from burning Mann's effigy.
While Mann supporters were holding dharna in Tehsil Chown, the Shiv Sena activists burnt the effigy in Char Khamba chowk. Mann supporters on knowing the act, attacked the Shiv Sena members and both sides clashed in the presence of Police force deployed there.
